Outfit: Homemade Skirt

Guess where this skirt came from? Well the fruits of my own labour of course! Yes, I really made it. It was my summer project last year but I must tell you that I almost killed my family while making it. Whenever I start a new sewing project, I am giddy with the promise of a magnificent looking/fitting item. However, after about 4 hours and only having the pattern cut out, I tend to lose it. I mean LOSE IT. Crying to my mommy to take over for a few minutes usually does the trick. Whatever, it was a pain to make but now I have a lovely wrap skirt. Can't wait to wear it more this summer. The weather is starting to heat up here in Guelph and that means biking to get ice cream with my man as soon as possible! Also, hope everyone is having a wonderful mother's day :) I surprised mine with fancy lotion, and now she's ditched me and my brother for a motorcycle ride. Meh, it is her day.

DIY iPhone Deco!

With all this downtime in between work, I've gotten back into my fairly crafty groove. I recently (accidentally) ordered 2 clear iPhone cases from eBay, and decided to get creative and put them to good use. I was inspired by this DIY I found on A Beautiful Mess which you can find in detail HERE. I fell in love with the idea of making your own phone case instantly and a little time and a lot of episode of Parks and Recreation later, I have completed a few! I still have to measure them precisely to fit my cases, but hopefully these ideas will inspire you too and get you going trying to create something :) I made these from an abundance of scrap-booking paper and images on my computer, etc. They're nothing special but I'm pretty excited to use 'em!

DIY: Simple Spring Toes

Was feeling artsy last night and decided to paint my toes with the smallest amount of resources I had - polish and newspaper! It's not the most flashy design. Just something cute. Step 1 is to paint your toes. Right before they're totally dried (slightly sticky), stick your accessory (newspaper) and secure it with clear polish. Perhaps more than one coat, I had to press my newspaper in a bit. I'm sure someone will notice these bad boys next time I wear flip flops on the bus. And I'm sorry you had to look at my feet for the sake of this DIY.

Spring Nails DYI

Happy Friday evening! I'm afraid this is pretty pathetic Friday night for me. Eating cake. Watching television. Blogging. Invigorating, isn't it! I have exam 2/3 tomorrow afternoon (still debating how I'm getting back to Toronto) and I am doing my favourite studying thing - leaving it up to the universe because I decidedly don't have the attention span to study! Whatever. Do as I say, not as I do, ok. I'm day-dreaming about what my next nail adventures will be, which is of course far from productive or interesting, but Pinterest is keeping me entertained. Check out these cool spring-inspired polishes :)

I'm eating mini eggs and blogging...

It doesn't get much better than that. Well, we all know that's probably not true but let's pretend because it's all I have. Though I am having a lovely Sunday! I had brunch with a girlfriend at McDonalds (have I swooned about their coffee here yet?) And ran some errands. I picked up this amazing green sunflower skirt you see below for only $20 and I'm in love with it already. I'm also excited because I decided to actually put some effort in to my appearance and went to the salon to get some highlights touched up. YAY for light hair for summer! I'm still trying to decorated my room which is a flippin disaster because I have no means of storage for all the odds and ends I've been bringing home from my dorm. It's a tornado! Lastly, I'm antsy about booking a trip for me and Justin to Montreal. I'd really like to go at the end of April, however I am a planner and he is a "fly by the seat of his pants"-er, so I haven't made much progress in finalizing anything. But it would be funner than the funnest of fun! (that's the chocolate talking, I apologize)

Tuesday, 21 February 2012

I've been doing a lot of purging lately, with regards to, well, everyone I own. Yesterday was the day to empty out the accumulation of books in my end table. Some of them dated all the way back to when I was 7 - talk about memory lane! One of the books I found was this adorable 'girl power' book my mom got me when I was a kiddie. I was surprised to find out that it's filled with inspirational quotes and adorable illustrations that are still relevant to my life today. I'm planning on just putting them on my bulletin to remind me to always smile! Here's a couple to brighten your day as well:

New Room

I have been craving re-doing my room lately with a couple simple things to spice it up. #1 is finding a better place to display all my cameras, and I'm in LOVE with this photo idea that I saw on Kinsey Mhire's blog. Also in love with these rose string lights from ModCloth, my room could use a little ambiance! Lastly I'm dying to fit a desk into my room to make it a little more functional, like my current dorm room. But I feel I have so many things and not enough space, so I'm trying to find the perfect storage systems. Being an English major means I have acquired more novels for my courses than I've ever read in my lifetime and need the organization.

Feb. 16

The Valentine's card  handmade for Justin (looks just like us, I swear) and my bestie's decorations for her man, which were too cute to resist posting.
My single red rose <3 and delicious drink from dinner!
Happy post-post-Valentines day! Hope everyone snagged some awesome 50% off chocolates. My v-day was lovely, as well as the day after. I couldn't rush through class fast enough to hop on my bus home and see my valentine, where he was waiting with a flower and chocolate :) I completely advocate celebrating everyday like it's Valentines Day, but...c'mon! It is Valentine's Day! It also just happened to be my first year celebrating it, and I couldn't have been happier. We spent the next day eating pancakes (procrastinating homework) lounging around (procrastinating homework) and laying in bed watching tv (still procrastinating homework). I only have one more class this afternoon and then I am officially on reading week - time to relax! Happy Thursday.
